Arch 1101 - Assignment Given on Oday (22/2/2016)

Step 2 , Step 3

a: a piece of creative work
(recreated work from Instagram)

This is a drawing which Marker has been used of a woman with pigeons covering her face. The use of marker aims to create less distraction from the color. The pigeons that have masked the woman’s face give off an ambiguous and mysteriousness portrayal of the woman which symbolize her dishonesty and secrets that cannot be told under the mask of  peace and innocence, which are the messages that pigeons usually used to represent.

b: an image of a great piece of architecture
(reference: http://mobile-helper.com/petra-city-in-jordan/)

The above photo is the well-known The Treasury at Petra. Petra is a rock-cut City located in Jordan, which had water system creating artificial oasis that allowed it rise from the desert. The actually construction time is still a myth yet according to its partly Egyptian and partly Greek architectural style, it is commonly agreed that it was built around 300 B.C. Due to the building method, Petra has entirely immerged to the surrounding with the reddish brown rocks making its existence hardly proved until early 1800s. To find The Treasury of Petra, a steeply down through a dark, narrow gorge has to be walked through, showing the power of man that able to build such magnificent architecture in early ages under tough environment creating an important stop in the east-west trade route.

c: an original photograph of something beautiful
(Taken in Hong Kong)

Known as the southern rock of China, Hong Kong is usually related to high rising buildings in the busy districts. Seldom do we know that Hong Kong has rich Volcanic Rocks and the Sedimentary Rocks. The above photo is one of the rock taken during a boat trip in northern part in Hong Kong. Taken in monochrome, the photo creates a sense of balance due to the mirror image of the sky and sea separated by the rocks and hills. Ironically Government in Hong Kong is planning to have developments in the country park, breaking the balance between nature and mankind in Hong Kong.
